"It is with the deepest regret I write of Christopher, my elder grandson, and only son of Mick and Pat, whose very promising short life ended very suddenly at Singapore, at the age of 19, in a motor car accident. He was then enlisted in the Royal Marines, and enjoying life to the full. His boundless energy and enthusiasm was almost out of this world. He was most popular with both his officers and men, who spoke most highly of his Christian character, and of his future prospects. The letters his father and mother received, although "no letters please", had been requested by the announcements in the papers, greatly comforted them, by all the glowing accounts of Christopher's successes. Christopher's parents have set a noble example by their conduct since their terrible loss, by carrying on, and in helping others. Mick and Pat have been wonderfully helped by their many friends, whose practical sympathy has meant a great deal to them. Christopher was laid to rest at Church Knowle, Dorset, the little church where Christopher, and his friends, and family, frequently worshipped. A memorial of some kind is being considered."2 |
