James' children:
Lydia marries James Taylor, brother of Phoebe Clifton (who marries Stephen Pearce Stapleton).
John's children:
Stephen Pearce Stapleton marries Phoebe Clifton (before his marriage to Phoebe Drabble).
Phoebe marries George Clifton, who is the son of Phoebe Clifton, who later married Steven Pearce Stapleton (before his marriage to Phoebe Drabble).

Research Research:A little conjecture and hypothesis.

John & Ann Stapleton in Hilltop Greasley 1851, next door to William & Ann - probably therefore John & William Stapleton are brothers.
James Stapleton (found in Derby in 1841, married to Ann) also has a Lydia.
May also be brothers to Elizabeth Stapleton who married Gervase Rowbottom!
In 1861, Lydia is recorded as Lydia Clifton, as she is with her mother and step-father.3,4
Research Research:There are two Lydia Stapletons, which may be confused -

1) born Eastwood, 1839/40 of James & Ann Stapleton (baptised Eastwood)

2) born Greasley 1837 of William & Amy Stapleton (before civil registration)

One marries in 1858 to William Massey in Greasley
One marries James Taylor 1869 in Eastwood (but says she was born in Greasley in all the census after they are married...)

Even though I have drawn conclusions, it needs some work either way to relate the Lydia who married James Taylor to my other related Stapletons.

  1. Fairly sure that William married Zillah Stapleton. He may have remarried to an Ann which explains 1901 (no record). More likely that he used her second christian name in 1901 census. Perhaps this is the name she was known by?
