Distributions of School Prizes

At Bath-Street, in the afternoon, Mr. Angrave, the head master, gave Mr. Barwick a good opportunity of forming an opinion of both the discipline and system of education followed in a modern elementary school, as there was a large attendance of the boys, who took part in a programme of musical selections in very good style. The prizes consisting of writing-desks, books, drawing certificates etc., were numerous, and Mr. Barwick, in presenting them, stated in the course of a few remarks appropriate to the occasion, that a sum of £2 10s. had been contributed to the school by a number of artisans for the purposes of providing prizes for the children. He also announced that the report of Her Majesty's Inspector had been received that morning and was even more satisfactory than on previous occasions - Mr. Cockayne presided at the distribution, which in part was made by Mrs. Paton in the girls' department (of which Mrs. Bramley is head mistress), and there briefly addressed the scholars, whose singing was one of the features of the proceedings.4

An Eastville Couple

Heartiest congratulations are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Dickinson, of Eastville, who celebrated their golden wedding on Wednesday, May 18th. Mrs. Dickinson is 73 years of age, and Mr. Dickinson 78. Mr. Dickinson is a native of Algarkirk. His father was shepherd for 40 years for the late Mr. Robinson of Algarkirk.

Mr. Dickinson married on May 18th 1882 , Miss Mary E. Baggley of Hannah near Alford. The marriage took place at Revesby Church. They then went to reside at Frithville, where he worked for the late Mr. H. Mackinder for six years. Afterwards they moved to Wrangle Common, and worked on the farm of the late Mr. W. Porter for 22 years. They now reside at Eastville Farm, and have done so for a good number of years.

There are 5 children of the marriage - three daughters and two sons, all married. The daughters are:
Mrs. W. Buttress, Spalding Common;
the late Mrs. F. Lawson, Quadring Eaudyke;
and Mrs. G. Frusher, Midville.

The sons are:
Mr. Wm. Dickinson, Eastville,
and Mr. Ben. E. Dickinson, Lade Bank, Wrangle.
There are 20 grandchildren. (there were - I counted them!)

Mr. Dickinson started work on a farm when he was nine years of age for sixpence a day.

We wish for them the continuance of the fairly good health which they now enjoy.
