In 1921 he is with a new younger "wife", Dorothea. She comes into his life between 1911 and 1921.
Though she is stated as a "wife" she informed the census, however, I can find no formal marriage until after Elizabeth Ann has died.
In 1939 Thomas and Dorothea his new lady friend are living apart due to war work.
There is an appropriate marriage in 1954 as soon as Elizabeth Ann has passed.
Thomas is not buried with his first wife (she is buried in Eastwood cenetery with her parents).
Both Thomas and new wife are scattered in Wilford Hill.

Authority to administer the Estate was granted to Dorothea Hayes described as Dorothea Clifton, widow. on 2 June 1965 by The Probate Office, Nottingham. Estate valued at £618. (Note that Dorothea is Thomas' latest wife and not his daughter Dorothea Alcock).¹⁶

Research:After Thomas's apparent death, more children have appeared. Thomas & Sarah J's children are too young to be the parents - so must be Sarah Jane's? (relationships not shown in 1939 registration).

The children are registered as Clifton's with a mother Wilmot.
Sarah J did not remarry another Clifton.
The other Clifton living with them (Walter, Thomas' father) died in 1929.

There is no suitable death (in NTT or DBY or anywhere of the right age) for a Thomas Clifton after 1925, but in 1925 there is a burial in Heanor of a 33 year old Thomas Clifton who died in Nottm General Hospital.(R.D. Nottingham).

My hypothesis is that Sarah Jane had further children and kept registering them as of the couple.

There is a possibility that another (to be identified) Clifton family member joined Sarah to have those children, otherwise we are in "turkey baster" territory ... or accept the mis-registration of the births.
For example, Frank Clifton, 8 years younger than Thomas and unmarried age 40 and living very close (with Lily Gent, his and Thomas' sister) in 63 Derby Road Heanor in 1939.

An example of one of their post 1926 birth certificates (and Thomas' death certificate) would be interesting and possibly definitive.

I don't however know who the father is of any of the post-1925 children.

Not sure I support this, as he would have been 13 on marriage. Ooops.
However, if he was baptised at the age of, say 18, this would fit my data perfectly...!

Richard Clifton & Rebecca Fepound were married in 1742.
As William was born in 1741, this further dampens my enthusiasm for this line of thinking. QED?^6,7
