Born at Kirkby, Mrs. Maltby lived locally all her life, completing 25 years at Boots offices in Nottingham until her marriage in 1945. She was a wartime member of the British Red Cross Society, a member of the WRVS and had a long association with St. Thomas' Mothers' Union at Kirkby. Mrs. Maltby only recently gave up the job of treasurer for East Ward Darby and Joan Club. Mourners were: Mr H Chamberlain, Mr and Mrs P Chamberlain, nephews and niece, Mr P.J. Chamberlain, Mr. and Mrs A.P. Chamberlain, great nephews and great niece, Representative from the WRVS, Mother's Union (St. Thomas), East Ward Darby and Joan Club and Sherwood Court. Floral tributes from family, friends, organisations and also from Canada and Denmark. Donations were received for the Nottingham and District Society for the Mentally Handicapped Children and Adults. David James of East Leake returned to conduct a service in the crematorium chapel attended by many friends which was followed by a cremation at Mansfield on Monday of Mrs. Winifred Maltby who died the day after being admitted in the Victoria Hospital, Mansfield. She was 82 and lived at 54 Sherwood Court, Kirkby, before she lived on Welbeck Street, having lived in Kirkby for the most part of her life except for a period at Ollerton. Before her marriage she worked at Boots offices spending 25 years there. Both Mrs Maltby and her husband Walter who died in 1973 had been ardent worshippers and members of St. Thomas' Church for many years. Mr. Maltby was a churchwarden for a number of years. Mrs. Maltby was a longstanding member of the St. Thomas' MU and served as treasurer of East Ward Darby and Joan for 30 years retiring only a few weeks ago for health reasons. She was a member of the British Red Cross. Flowers were left to decorate Sherwood Court and donations were received for the Nottingham and District Society for mentally handicapped children and adults. Mrs Maltby leaves two nephews, Mr. Henry Chamberlain who lives in Denmark and came over for the funeral, and Mr. Paul Chamberlain. Family mourners were: Mr Henry Chamberlain (also representing Mrs. Ellen Chamberlain and family in Denmark), Mr and Mrs Paul Chamberlain, nephews and nieces, Mr and Mrs Anthony Chamberlain, Mr Philip Chamberlain, great nephews and great niece. Also among the mourners were Mrs Kathleen Hilton, Mrs Copley, Miss F Langley, Mrs Olive Fox, Mr and Mrs Butler, Mr and Mrs Negus, Nurse Angeledes. Representing East Ward Darby and Joan were leader Mrs Annie Butler, Mrs F Lane, Mr and Mrs Mick Smithurst and Mrs Hilda Carrington. Representing St. Wilfred's Church were Mr. Arthur Cook Churchwarden and Mr and Mrs K Peters. Representing St. Thomas' MU were Mrs Celia Bishop, Mrs Joan Mattley and Mrs Madge Evans. Warden Mrs Doreen Garbutt represented Sherwood Court. Flowers and donations were from the above mourners, relatives in Denmark and Canada, friends, Sherwood Court and organisations Mrs Maltby was associated with. She retired in 1967. In her younger days, Mrs Vincent enjoyed keep fit, cycling, dancing and cooking. After her retirement she liked dancing, socialising, being with her family, and cooking. Mrs Vincent, who died at Mansfield Community Hospital, leaves one son, one daughter, two granddaughters, one grandson and one great-granddaughter. Mourners were Mrs S. and Mr K.
