If I went by GRO references only, I would have got the wrong one.16,1,10

Resch Note Research Note:
Researchers "Stapleton Family Tree" and others also have Edward Clifton (1713 Bingham) & Ann Hean (1718 Bingham) = 1737 Bingham as William's parents.1

Resch Note Research Note:
more likely to be a son of William Clifton & Ann Hardick, both of Greasley, 4 Mar 1738, though I do not have a baptism for him.
William & Ann do have a son Samuel in 1744 - a Samuel was a witness to William's marriage in 1772.2

Resch Note Research Note:
Researcher Julie Witham on Ancestry has William Clifton (of Tuxford) & Dorothy Upton (1726 of Greasley) as William's parents.

This William (1725) was named with parents Thomas Clifton (1691) of Tuxford and Susannah Brewitt (1700) of Tuxford.3

Resch Note Research Note:
Researcher PaulClifton2 on Ancestry has John Clifton & Mary as William's parents.4

Note* William Clifton of Greasley, on marriage.
Birth*1741 William CLIFTON was born in 1741.5
Resch Note*1759 Research Note:
A researcher on Familysearch has Richard Clifton & Rebecca Fepound as William's parents, from baptism on 1st Apr 1759, Greasley.
Not sure I support this, as he would have been 13 on marriage. Ooops.
However, if he was baptised at the age of, say 18, this would fit my data perfectly...!

Richard Clifton & Rebecca Fepound were married in 1742.
As William was born in 1741, this further dampens my enthusiasm for this line of thinking. QED?6,7

Resch Note* Research Note:
Some confusion over this William, and his family. Need to look at marriages & baptisms in Eastwood for this period.

May be in 1841 census in Eastwood, with brother Thomas, and son Lewis.

May be in 1851 in Greasley (Beggarlee Bottom) age 38, with wife Ann, s Cooper (14), Lydia (12) Samuel (10), Mary (4)

Mother Ruth is looking after Cooper & Mary in 1841 in Eastwood

William probably married Ann Stapleton Dec 1847 (or Ann Bains Jun 1847)

In 1881 is living with son Cooper, as a 'lodger'.
