(Subject) Newspaper | 13 October 1913 | She and Thomas Saxby were the subject of a newspaper article on 13 October 1913. Not Married Bliss A Sheffield Husband Sent to Prison At the Sheffield Police Court, to-day, Thomas Saxby, of 5 court 1 house, Spital Street, was summoned for assaulting his wife, Kate Saxby who has recently been living apart from him at 27 Rawson Street, on October 2nd. Mr. Lambert was for the complainant. Kate Saxby said she worked for a cigar-maker, and on the day in question when she left her employment at one o'clock, defendant came up to her, struck her in the face, and knocked her down. She was kicked, and shortly afterwards took hold of her by the throat and tried to strangle her. Defendant remarked that he would "finish her". Defendant said it was impossible for a man to do his best for a woman like the complainant who was always deceiving him. He complained that his wife got into debt. On October 2nd he asked his wife is she would let him know where the child was, but she refused. He then caught hold of her and she fell to the ground. It appeared that the parties, who were married in 1907, had been separated on two or three occasions. After marriage defendant enlisted in the Coldstream Guards as a single man, and when he left in August 1912, his conduct was reported to have been very good. The Chairman (Dr. Hunt) said this was a very aggravated assault, and defendant would have to undergo one month's hard labour.1 |

Jonathan R.D. Shardlow, Eliza R.D. Belper. Perhaps one died in hospital (Jonathan did, Eliza died at home) And presumably they share the grave with their uncle because a) he died first and b) had no children, just a wife, c) he was still living in Greasley, and had a handy plot with space left. d) the rest of the family had to do something in a hurry as they both died together. His Aunt Florence May Franklin predeceased him leaving three children Mrs. Joyce Mary Hardy, Mrs. Brenda Betty Dolby and John Henry Franklin, his Uncle George Sidney James died leaving three children surviving namely Miss Winifred M. Resch Note* | 1830 | Research Note: Be careful! There are 2 Edwin Kirk's - one born about 1832 (15 Dec 1832) to Thomas & Mary, and one born around 1830 to Oliver and Phoebe. (both in Greasley). I did have the wrong Edwin marrying Ann Rowbottom, and the one marrying her in 1856 is in fact the son of Thomas Kirk, not Oliver Kirk. This would match his age in 1861 and successive census. This one likely to have married Harriet Rowley, but died. Note family living next to Thomas Rowley (bn around 1800) - probably Harriet's father - in 1871. |
Birth | 20 August 1830 | Edwin Kirk, son of Oliver Kirk and Phobe Lievers, was born on 20 August 1830 at Beggarlee, Greasley, NTT.1,2 |

Edwin Kirk was described as Edwin Kirk, son, unmarried, age 20, coal miner born Greasley, NTT.4 |
Had a Son | between 1 October 1853 and 31 December 1853 | His son John Kirk was born between 1 October 1853 and 31 December 1853 at Eastwood, NTT.5,6 |
Had a Son | between 1 January 1856 and 31 March 1856 | His son William Kirk was born between 1 January 1856 and 31 March 1856 at Eastwood, NTT.5,6 |
Resch Note | between 1 April 1856 and 30 June 1856 | Research Note: Possible marriage of this Edwin to Harriot Rowley or Mary Wilkinson. I think Henry Parkes married Mary Wilkinson (of Greasley), so Edwin possibly married Harriot Rowley. More evidence as their children baptised as Edwin & Harriet, and they are found along with Thomas Rowley in 1871. |
(Groom) MC-Reg* | between 1 April 1856 and 30 June 1856 | His marriage was registered between 1 April 1856 and 30 June 1856 at R.D. Basford Ref: 7b, 159 as Kirk, Edwin = Rowley, Harriot.7 |
